The Trust's mission is to achieve the restoration and revitalisation of the Lagan Canal and its corridor - in ways which conserve and enhance the built and natural heritage, maximise recreational and tourism opportunities, involve and benefit the local communities and their visitors, and contribute to the local and regional economies.

Re-opening the Canal and further improving its towpath can bring many benefits, including –
· Restoring the waterway for recreation and tourism
· Stimulating inward investment and increasing property values
· Improving image & creating pride in local areas generating jobs & income
The first meeting of the Executive Committee for the Lagan Canal Restoration Trust was held on Wednesday 28th October. Castlereagh Borough Council's Economic Development Manager, Colin McCabrey will work in partnership with the Trust to development a strategy for restoration, delivering the ultimate vision of a restored Lagan Canal to the benefit of NI's tourism sector.
